Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

On our last day of vacation, we made the 15 minute drive out of Las Vegas to visit the Red Rock National Conservation Area.  This is Nevada's first National Conservation area.  Total area is 195,819 acres with 30 miles of trails and a 13-mile scenic drive around the area.

We drove in knowing we wanted to do the longest trail -- the trail in the upper left corner -- White Rock to Rocky Gap Road to Lost Creek and back to White Rock. [The numbers in the map are not mileage markers -- the refer to the trail number.]

Such a beautiful place that I, once again, took too many photos.  So I'll be posting a few entries to show you the trails we walked.  The following shots are from the White Rock trail.

Look carefully -- there are petroglyphs on this rock (I have no idea how old these are -- they could have been put there the day before I got there).
